China launched an anti vulgarity campaign yesterday to make things difficult some of the most used sites in the country, claiming that websites including Google and Baidu spread pornography across the Web. The aim of China’s Ministry of Public Security and six other government agencies is to destroy these sites which are deemed inappropriate for their content. The report said that the government had "decided to launch a nationwide campaign to clean up a vulgar current on the Internet and named and exposed a large number of [sites] violating public morality and harming the physical and mental health of youth and young people." If this is the case then our youngsters are clearly doomed as our government has no such plans. The charge involves 19 different internet operators which the country has accused of not only displaying and failing to remove this ‘vulgar’ content, but also for failing to pay attention to warnings from censors. Cai Mingzhao, a deputy chief of the State Council Information Office, said that the sites have been sneaky in exploiting loopholes in the laws and regulations surrounding internet content as, "They have used all kinds of ways to distribute content that is low-class, crude and even vulgar, gravely damaging mores on the Internet." Google should be shaking in its boots as the government has hinted that these violators might be exposed, punished or even shut down permanently. ( www.theinquirer.net )
