The streaming service also means iPhone users will be able to chat live with other viewers using instant-messaging while watching the President-Elect Obama swear his oath of office. Although the application is currently only available to those who request a login directly from Ustream, the company hopes to add the software to the official iTunes Application Store in the next few days. Users will be able to watch any of the broadcasts streamed across Ustream, said its founder, regardless of location. “Ustream has developed an application for the 3G iPhone that allows you to watch Ustream anywhere, with everyone,” wrote John Ham, Ustream’s founder, on the company blog. “Regardless of where you are at and what you are doing, you can choose to be in the moment with others in a shared live experience around a live event. “If you are out-on-the-town and know that a guest speaker at a major conference is ‘going live’ and want to watch live and be-in-the-crowd, then you can with this application.” Michael Arrington, editor of influential technology site TechCrunch, hailed the application. “The timing of the application is near perfect with the Obama inauguration coming up. If you have the application installed you’ll be able to watch it live from anywhere, even if you aren’t in front of your TV or computer. The world is changing before our eyes.” The inauguration of Barack Obama on January 20 is expected to be watched by millions of people around the world. Thousands are organising celebratory viewing parties to welcome America’s first black president to power and to bid farewell to George W Bush. ( www.telegraph.co.uk )
