Youtube has come down hard on videos if they make double-entendres that might offend adults who think their children might be corrupted. For a while Youtube has been censoring video advertisements for porn sites, strippers, and other content. But now has decided to have a new standard for so-called "mature" content which requires punters to be older than 18 to view. However Yahoo's 18-year-old must be an easily-shocked puritan who has never uttered a swear word, or seen a woman's ankle, or who has never gone out of the house. The 'mature' level is the sort of censorship standard that would appease your average Taliban cleric as it includes things that someone finds "sexually suggestive". This includes "videos featuring individuals in minimal or revealing clothing which may also be age-restricted if they're intended to elicit a sexual response." ( www.theinquirer.net )

:astig:NVIDIA is set to trickle out the latest batch of 55nm parts. The 55nm parts, internally code named GT206, are finally trickling out like we said they would, with no speed increases, and no power gains. What should have been a simple optical shrink is turning into a totally botched job, with the 'real' 55nm parts unlikely to come out until late January at the earliest following yet another spin .Given the lack of gains with the B2 stepping, the GX2/GTX295 still seem unmakable in volume, but such trifling concerns have never stopped Nvidia in the past. We hear they are going to launch it even though they can't make it, along with the requisite 19 parts to Newegg so they can claim it is on sale. Real volume won't happen until (if?) they can fix the power problems.

Google's new mobile operating system, Android, is now available on a handset that isn't the G1. Only available in Australia, the phone is called the Kogan Agora, and will be available in Q1 of next year – 29 January, to be exact. Like the G1, the phone will feature a whole host of Google-based applications. These include: Google Calendar, GMail, a Google search bar and instant access to Google Maps and YouTube. :astig:Intel is at the top and Nvidia is at the bottom of the 2008 Top 20 chip rankings, according to industry analyst outfit Isuppli. Intel, Samsung, Texas Instruments, Toshiba, and ST Microelectronics occupy the top five positions. AMD is at number 11 and Nvidia is number 20 in the ranking. Economic factors played havoc with this year's Top 20 with memory chip manufacturers being some of the hardest hit. South Korea-based Hynix slid from Number six to Number nine. Hynix is looking for people who want to invest in the foundering foundry company. Micron is expected to post a 9.2 percent revenue decrease in 2008 and Hynix's revenue should dive by about 29 percent in 2008, Isuppli said. The world's Number two chipmaker, Samsung Electronics, is set for a 9.1 percent revenue decline for the year. Isuppli also said that 2008 will go down as "a year to forget" for memory chip suppliers. Infineon, which is ranked at Number 10, expects 2009 revenue to fall at least 15 percent from the previous year.

:ahaha:MySpace Mobile will stream video content to mobile devices using technology from RipCode. The partnership makes MySpace the first social network to offer the streaming-video service. "Internet video is now on the TV, the computer, and the mobile device," said an analyst. A further revolution is that MySpace streaming isn't tied to a wireless carrier.

BMW's new Mini E is by far the coolest electric car we've ever seen. The Mini E is capable of travelling 150 miles on a full charge, with a quoted top speed of 95mph. Impressive stuff, immediately, I am sure you will agree. It is whisperingly quiet, though no good for a family car, as BMW's designers have removed the back seats from the British classic (they've been replaced by the 250kg battery pack).
